The upcoming festival of Ganesh Chaturthi will be a well-deserved break for Goa’s Covid warriors, especially healthcare workers who have been a vital cog in the extensive and unprecedented Covid vaccination exercise in the state.
According to the state nodal officer for vaccination Dr Anup Netravalkar, the non-stop 228-day vaccination drive will be paused for two days, September 10 and 11, which coincides with the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, Goa’s most popular Hindu festival.
“This will provide a much-needed break for our healthcare professionals. They have been working for 228 days without a single break. We are also doing this because there may not be a big rush during Ganesh Chaturthi. After taking these factors into consideration, the Goa government has decided that it will be a vaccine holiday on September 10 and 11,” Netravalkar told reporters.
He also said that September 10 and 11 were being designated as “vaccination holidays.”
“We are announcing a vaccine holiday on September 10 and 11. There will be no vaccination in government centres on these two days. Vaccination will resume on the September 12,” the Health department official further said.
