With action neither forthcoming from the local panchayat or PWD (roads) division, a group of youth from Gaondongrim took up the task to clear overgrown bushes and weeds along the village road located in three wards of the village.
Sources told The Goan that the youth were pained at the sight of weeds and overgrown bushes protruding on the village road, with the local panchayat and PWD doing nothing about it.
Concerned about the safety of motorists and pedestrians, the youth under the banner of Indrawada Youth Club took up the challenge to clear the road.
“With the help of a weed cutter and choppers, the youth cleared the overgrown bushes and weeds protruding onto the road, which were a threat to motorists and pedestrians,” said Ulhas Gaonkar, one of the club members.
Another youth claimed that panchayat and PWD (Roads) often claimed to have utilised funds to cut bushes and roadside weeds, but in reality had done virtually nothing for the village road.
Incidentally, the youth used their own funds to cleared the overgrown bushes from the village road passing through three wards in the village.
