The request of resident doctors for enhanced remuneration “is justified”, according to Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, who said he will take up the issue with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant soon.
Rane said that he had a meeting with the president of the Goa Association of Resident Doctors (GARD) to discuss their demand for enhanced remuneration.
He said the request for higher perks is justified, given the resident doctors’ tireless efforts in serving Goa’s healthcare needs.
“I’ll be taking this up with Hon’ble CM Dr Pramod Sawant to ensure our doctors are fairly supported. GARD’s dedication is truly commendable,” Rane said.
Resident doctors’ associations in several States, including Goa, have been demanding increased stipends and perks in recent months.
In some States, like Maharashtra and Karnataka, the State governments have already implemented enhanced stipends for resident doctors after the latter agitated to highlight their demands.
In Goa, GARD has presented their demand for a hike in payments to the government in writing, but the government is yet to take any decision on the issue.
