Anurag Singh Rajawat who was arrested by Vasco police on Friday night in connection with the death of his wife and her mother has been granted six days in police custody.
Vasco PI Kapil Nayak said police arrested the accused, Anurag Singh Rajawat, in the gas explosion case on November 18, 2023, which had led to the deaths of two women, Shivani Rajawat (26) who was four months pregnant and her mother Jaidevi Chauhan (50) in a flat at New Vaddem.
“We had registered an unnatural death case but since the death of the wife was within seven years of marriage, her matter was being investigated by the Sub District Magistrate while we were investigating the case of Jaidevi Chauhan,” said PI Nayak.
“Dy Collector Bhagwant Karmali had recently submitted his report to us directing us to investigate on the basis of circumstantial evidence and register a FIR. After going to the report of the SDM, we saw that there was some allegations made by the family of the deceased women indicating a dowry death case.”
“We then registered a crime under Section 304 B against Anurag Singh Rajawat, the husband of Shivani Rajawat. We were also investigating the death of Jaidevi Chauhan and after investigation in both cases, we added the Section 302 read with 34 IPC in the crime and even included Anurag Singh Rajawat, mother of the accused, in the crime under Section 304B.”
PI Nayak said Anurag Singh Rajawat had been summoned previously for investigation but since he was not cooperating with the investigation, police arrested him late Friday night.
“We produced him before the JMFC and he has been remanded to six days in police custody,” said Nayak.
