The Curtorim Panchayat on Wednesday issued a stop work notice to an oil company engaged in laying the gas pipeline to stop work immediately following complaints that the company has allegedly flouted the NOC norms.
Curtorim Sarpanch Milagres Rodrigues, who along with his deputy Simon Baretto and panchayat secretary on Wednesday inspected the site in question whether the oil company has built a structure based on a provisional NOC upon a complaint by outgoing ZP member, Moreno Rebello.
The sarpanch informed that since the provisional NOC norms has been violated by the company, the panchayat on Wednesday issued a stop work notice, adding that the panchayat will deliberate the matter at the forthcoming meeting of the panchayat body. “Since a complaint has been lodged on the matter, it will be placed before the body meeting scheduled later this week,” he said.
Deputy Sarpanch Simon Barretto wondered how the company can occupy the structure when it has been only given a provisional NOC in 2018. “This is a serious matter and the panchayat will immediately send a stop work notice to the company to stop all work at the premises,” he said.
Outgoing Curtorim ZP member Moreno Rebello said the storage of pipes and other combustible items in and around the premise may pose danger in case of a fire calamity. He has demanded to know how a provisional NOC given for residential purpose can be used to store material, saying that a corporate, who is charged for bringing coal into the State, should not be allowed any base in Curtorim.
