Gaude plans another two auditoriums at Kala Academy

PONDA: Minister for Art and Culture Govind Gaude, who was on Friday appointed as chairman of Kala Academy, has expressed plans to construct two auditoriums with a combined capacity of 900 seats at the State's premier art and culture centre.
According to Gaude, the Dinanath Auditorium, which has a capacity of 900 seats, was frequently booked, depriving others from reserving the auditorium for various events.
"Hence, I have plans to construct another two auditoriums which can accommodate 300 and 600 people, in the campus of Kala Academy. This will help artistes and organisers of different events," Gaude said.
Gaude said the 600-seater auditorium would be constructed on priority, followed by the 300-seater auditorium.
"Being the capital city, many programmes take place in Panaji and there is a need for another auditorium, which is possible in the Kala Academy campus," justified Gaude.
"For smaller programmes, these proposed auditoriums may be used," he said.
"Since the last several months, the chairman's post was vacant and some decisions could not take place. Hence, I want to put everything, including the administration, in place," said Gaude.
Gaude also said he has given priority to initiate the process of getting recognition for the Master Performing Art course from Goa University.
"I am focusing on this issue, as it will help many to pursue education in Master in Performing Art," he added.
Sources from Kala Academy said Goa University has been requested for recognition for graduation and post-graduation degree in MPA.
