A large number of Gauncars from the Upper Ghats region belonging to the Comunidade Fraternal de Aldona will be in Goa to exercise their franchise to vote at the elections for the new committee for 2025-28.
Many of these Gauncars who are the able components of the Comunidade Fraternal de Aldona have resolved to support the team that will save the valuable Comunidade properties while supporting various development works that are being taken up. The elections for the new committee are being held on Sunday.
Among various demands these Gauncars aka Zonnkars have raised concerns about losing their ancestral lands and properties and have avowed to unite in safeguarding them. They are also demanding for a rightful and proper accommodation for them and their families whenever they visit Goa.
“I belong to the Goan settlers from the Upper Ghats region and have settled in Goa since little over two decades. During the last term I was elected as the treasurer of the Comunidade. Gauncars from the Upper Ghats have expressed their satisfaction as they could have direct access to the Comunidade office. There is rising awareness among scores of Goan settlers in Ajara, Gadhinglaj, Chandgad, Belgaum and Khanapur talukas about their rights over their Comminidades,” Gabriel D’souza, who is seeking re election along with the current committee told The Goan.
“We are deeply concerned about safeguarding our ancestral properties in Goa that are being illegally encroached or leased out. We have raised our concerns about the same. At least 150 able components belonging to the Comunidade Fraternal de Aldona will be in Goa on Sunday to vote for a new committee,” Elias Govea (Bardeskar), a gauncar residing in Pune said.
Many like him are keen to have a transparent and non-corrupt committee that would safeguard the Comunidade property and are looking forward to exercise their vote at the elections on Sunday.
