Gauravi elected Ucassaim sarpanch
MAPUSA: Gauravi Madgaonkar was elected as the new sarpanch of Ucassaim-Paliem-Punola Panchayat after the previous sarpanch George D’Souza was voted out almost two months ago.
In the seven-member panchayat, four members including Deputy Sarpanch Kanti Kanolkar, Shubanand Mandrekar, Gauravi Madgaonkar and Rajesh Dabale were present at the special meeting to elect the new sarpanch.
Former sarpanch George D’Souza, Anand Gadekar and Virendra Salagaokar remained absent.
As only Gauravi Madgaonkar filed her application for the post of sarpanch, the presiding officer declared her as the new sarpanch.
The post was lying vacant since October 28 after a no confidence motion was passed against former sarpanch, George D’Souza for not taking panchayat members into confidence.
Krishna Gadekar of the BDO was the presiding officer at the meeting. He was assisted by secretary Clifton Azavedo.
