Goa Barge Owners Association has opposed the entry of sixth casino in Mandovi River stating that it would lead to difficulty in manoeuvring the barges.
the goan I networkrPANAJI r rAssociation President Raymond Desa has stated, “The barge industry is totally dependent on the channel of Mandovi River in the fair season from September to May. The channel is closed from May end upto around September due to dangerous sea conditions. If the casino vessel M V Lucky Seven comes in, it may result in unfortunate consequences to the channel and the whole barge industry may be at risk.” rThe Association has also pointed out that the increase in the number of casinos will result in the increase in number of feeder boats. r“These boats cross the river to various locations of casinos and some pass over the main channel in the river and are dangerous, especially at night. Navigation of barges, fishing trawlers, may be affected,” said Desa.
