Students of schools and higher secondaries will now have two new subjects to look forward to in the coming academic year: Astronomy for students of Stds IX and X, and basic biotechnology for students of Stds XI and XII (Science stream).
This was announced by Secretary of the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) Bhagirath Shetye on Wednesday.
For school students, Astronomy will be an optional seventh subject, if they wish to opt for it, in addition to their six core subjects.
Basic biotechnology will be offered to students of Stds XI and XII so long as the higher secondary they attend opts to offer it.
The secretary said that for school students, even if they take a seventh subject, they will be promoted if they clear any six of these subjects. For higher secondary schools, students would be taking biotechnology instead of another one of their subjects.
Consent to allow these subjects was given at the general body meeting of the GBSHSE. For biotechnology, on-the-job training will be provided to students, he further added.
