GCCI lauds GIDC’s move to reserve plots for women entrepreneurs

PANAJI

The Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) welcomed Goa Industrial Development Corporation's (GIDC’s) initiative to reserve plots for women entrepreneurs. The GCCI president, Shrinivas Dempo welcomed the decision to reserve 30 per cent of small individual plots exclusively for women applicants.

“GCCI has always advocated for policies and initiatives that promote women's entrepreneurship and economic empowerment. We believe that this initiative will have a positive impact on the state's economy and will encourage more women to take up entrepreneurship,” said Dempo while thanking the government.

In the Union Budget 2025, Nari Shakti (Women Empowerment) was one of the core areas of focus by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. By reserving these industrial plots in Goa the State Government has given traction for developing women entrepreneurship in the State. This move will be fostering a more inclusive and supportive ecosystem for women-led businesses in Goa. By providing exclusive access to plots, GIDC is enabling women entrepreneurs access to land and infrastructure.

It may be noted that Goa accounts for about 22% of women MSMEs registered in the State, most of it in the micro category.  Only 7% of the 111 medium category enterprises are owned and managed by women entrepreneurs. This move of plot reservation for women will help in increasing the women entrepreneurs in Goa.

Currently 20 industrial plots for women have been earmarked at Pissurlem, Kundaim, Panchawadi, Madkaim, Verna, Honda and Tuem with plot sizes between 600-3000 sq metres with a base rate between Rs 1070 per sq-metre to 2810 per sq-metre. The tender is already open and will close by March 31, 2025.
