OLD GOA
The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) held an inspection of constructions coming up along the Ourem Creek, after a complaint to this effect was lodged by concerned locals of Merces.
In the complaint, the locals have pointed out that four constructions are undertaken by different authorities and there is no display of notice board pertaining to permissions obtained, including GCZMA approvals.
They have further opined that such constructions cannot be allowed to come up on the bundh bordering the creek as the purpose of the bundh is to act as a defence so as to protect ingress of saline water.
After the inspections, a GCZMA official informed The Goan that they would verify whether the constructions have valid CRZ licences or not, and accordingly action would be taken.
“Further, the DSLR will undertake mapping of the constructions after which a clear picture will emerge on whether there are violations, if any,” the official added.
GCZMA officials, DSLR staff, complainants Michael Dias, Gabriel Braganza, and others were present for the inspection.
