The State government on Monday told the Bombay High Court at Goa that the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) would dispose of matters in about 100 cases of the 175 they have issued show cause notices for being in violation of coastal zone management norms within a period of three weeks.
When the suo motu petition came up before the High Court, the State informed that out of the 175 show cause notices issued by the GCZMA in about 100 cases, hearings are complete and the showcause notice would be disposed of within three weeks from today.
“The GCZMA will have to act consistent with this statement,” the High Court stated.
Earlier in July this year, the village panchayat of Anjuna Caisua had sought two months more time to demolish structures along the coast it had identified to be illegal.
In April this year, the High Court directed the Director of Panchayats to dispose off appeals against demolition orders passed by the Anjuna panchayat within a period of four weeks.
The orders came after the Anjuna panchayat informed the High Court, which is hearing a suo motu writ petition against rampant illegal structures within the Anjuna panchayat that it has prima facie identified 275 illegal structures in the No Development Zone (NDZ) of which the panchayat issued 100 demolition orders, out of which about 18 demolitions have already taken place, the panchayat informed the High Court.
The High Court also observed how via the stay being granted by the Directorate of Panchayats, “these structures continue to be exploited for commercial purposes.”
