MARGAO
Has retail sale of fish outside the wholesale fish market or along the wholesale fish market a thing of the past in the wake of action by the Margao Municipal Council and the SGPDA?
Hold on. With the issue under the High court’s lens and the MMC maintaining heat on the retail fish sale along the wholesale fish market road, migrant fish vendors seemed to have shifted their operations from the jurisdiction of Margao Municipality to the adjoining Serauim village along the wholesale fish market.
In fact, hordes of migrant fish vendors were seen along the wholesale fish market road, but in the portion falling in the adjoining Seraulim village Panchayat. Many of them were seen along the western bypass road near the construction of the bypass on stilts in Seraulim, just metres away from the wholesale fish market.
The presence of illegal fish vendors doing business outside the wholesale fish market had prompted the SGPDA and MMC to crack a whip against the vendors, affecting the traditional fishermen in the process.
While the traditional fishermen cannot bring their fresh fish catch in the wholesale fish market after 10 am, some of the migrant vendors have shifted their operations to the other side of the wholesale fish market road, falling in neighbouring Seraulim village.
