Gender diversity in board room vital: ICSI prez

Gender balance in the field of company secretaries is key in an ever-changing world of corporate governance, company secretary Mamta Binani, president of the Institute of Company Secretaries (ICSI) has said.
Binani was speaking during a round table conference organised by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) Goa Chapter on corporate good governance to commemorate the International Corporate Governance Day on Saturday.
“The challenge is to create a system of governance that promotes, supports and sustains economic development with special consideration to corporate environment and long term sustainability,” Binani said.
“Company Secretaries play a very crucial role as key managerial personnel (KMP) in any company, therefore, it is imperative to establish gender diversity in board room,” she added.
The conference saw prominent members from the corporate world, regulators, professionals, academicians and researchers from around the world who deliberated threadbare, the corporate governance challenges in the light of current economic and social scenario.
Binani also stressed on the need for “ethical professionals who are willing to put their best in the interests of the organisation’s cause.” The Institute of Company Secretaries of India is the premier professional body set up under an Act of Parliament for the regulation and development of the profession of company secretaries in India. The institute, being a pro-active body, focuses on best and top-quality education to students of company secretaries course and best quality set standards for CS members.
