The State Resource Centre for Women organised a training programme for police officials at the Goa Reserve Police Camp at Altinho- Goa.
Dr Meera Chaddha Borwankar was the chief speaker of the function. Dr Borwankar shared a motivating account of how she moved from a Hindi medium Government school to being the only woman trainee in the 1981 batch (with 69 men) to being the first ever woman Commissioner of Police Pune City in the state of Maharashtra in (2010-12) and the first woman Chief of Mahrashtra State Prison Department of (2012-2015).
She started her training sharing the results of a research study that she engaged in on the ‘Gender Friendliness’ of women staff in the police force.
Stating that Maharashtra has around 30% women and Goa 10% women on the police force, she made a revelation that the women are not always satisfied with the treatment from their male counterparts or superiors. She also spoke of the personal hurdles faced by her own self while in the force and gave an inspiring account of how she overcame them.
