MARGAO
The Goa Forward leadership on Monday launched a scathing attack on Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) chief Girish Chodankar for attacking party leader Vijai Sardesai instead of joining hands with the opposition to unitedly take on the government on the potholed roads.
Addressing the media on Monday, Goa Forward spokesperson Prashant Naik questioned the statement made by Girish that Sardesai had no right to demand a CBI inquiry into the corruption in the road construction. “The Goa Forward chief had demanded CBI inquiry into the potholed roads by questioning government’s Vibrant Goa when Goa was vibrating because of the potholed roads. Now, it appears even the Congress is vibrating over Sardesai’s demand,” he told the media in the presence of party leader Dilip Prabhudesai.
Saying that it is the duty of the opposition to take up public issues, Prashant said the Congress should have taken up the issue within and outside the Assembly. “In Goa, Girish seemed to be vibrating. His approach in Goa is questionable. When 10 Congress MLAs quit the party, Girish filed the disqualification petition at the fag end of the Assembly session,” he recalled.
Pointing out that the Congress ought to have filed the disqualification plea immediately given there was no split in the Congress party, Prashant, however, said Girish did not take the split seriously when the party was reduced to just five MLAs from 17.
He also pointed to the allegations made by a prominent Congress MLA against the GPCC chief, adding that the Congress should stop poking its nose in other parties matter.
Demanding to know why the State Congress president is not interested in forging opposition unity to take on the ruling dispensation, Prashant said it is evident that Girish appears hell bent in splitting the opposition instead of putting up an united face against the government. “Why is the Congress president not interested in opposition unity in Goa,” he charged.
Saying that Girish should have supported Sardesai’s demand for a CBI inquiry into the road scam, Prashant lamented that the Congress chief has instead defended the government on the issue.
