GF takes centrestage during Paliencar’s Canacona tour

The day-long visit of Fisheries and WRD Minister Vinoda Paliencar to Canacona on Friday turned out to be a Goa Forward Party (GFP) stage-managed show, with party leaders virtually taking control of the minister’s tour.

Durgadas Kamat, Prashant Naik and Mohandas Lolienkar were the three prominent GFP functionaries who prominently managed and directed the minister’s tour, with Naik and Lolienkar even answering questions from the media.
Interestingly, Naik and Lolienkar, both well-known in Canacona, claimed they had requested scheduled the tour with the minister, to resolve most problems faced in the taluka.
When the media asked if any intimation had been sent to the local MLA, Lolienkar shot back: “Should we print wedding invitation cards to invite the MLA? If he wants to see developments of this constituency, it is his obligation to join the minister.”
Loliem-Polem Sarpanch Bhushan Prabhugaonkar, who is also BJP spokesman for Canacona Block, thanked Paliencar for his visits at different sites to resolve pending issues also informed that Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes too had chaired a few meetings with various administrative heads in the taluka to quickly resolve pending and needed works.
When Prabhugaonkar made mention of Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes during a thanksgiving speech, the media sought to know if Fernandes was also part of the team during Paliencar’s tour of Canacona.
Loliencar was quick to respond on the minister’s behalf: “It is for the MLA to remain present, if he wants to, when the minister is in the constituency.”
Sources told The Goan that some fisherfolk were also surprised when the minister reached Talpona jetty without the Canacona MLA and began to question those accompanying the minister why their MLA had not been present at the site.
The minister reportedly snapped when some fisherfolk at Polem asked him why the local MLA had not been present along with him.
“Our MLA is aware about our issues. Whether or not you come here regularly to look after our issues, you should come to us through our MLA, as he is well versed with our issues,” a woman reportedly hit back at Paliencar.
