GFP President and MLA Vijai Sardesai has urged Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju to withhold assent to two Bills passed by the Goa Legislative Assembly on September 2, alleging far-reaching implications for land acquisition, industrial land and public interest.
In a memorandum, Sardesai sought reconsideration of the Goa Amendment to the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill, 2026 and the Goa Ease of Doing Business (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill, 2026. A GFP delegation met the Governor on Monday, objecting to eight Bills being tabled and passed in a single day, which it said left little scope for scrutiny. Sardesai raised concerns over exemptions from land acquisition safeguards, including Social Impact Assessment, and provisions covering industrial corridors and public-private partnerships.
He also opposed allowing GIDC to grant freehold rights over industrial land, warning of private real-estate gains. The GFP also flagged provisions concerning industrial-estate land acquisition and alleged drafting errors.
