Accusing two Congress leaders of campaigning for an independent candidate against the Congress-GFP alliance nominee in Poinguinim, the Goa Forward Party (GFP) has demanded disciplinary action to prevent mistrust within the alliance.

Addressing a news conference, GFP leader Vikas Bhagat, along with Canacona Congress Block President Abel Borges and Congress leader Janardhan Bhandari, alleged that two Congress leaders from Canacona are openly canvassing for Congress rebel Daya Gaonkar, who is contesting as an independent in the Poinguinim ZP constituency.

Bhagat said the leaders were misleading voters by claiming that the independent candidate was a Congress nominee and that voting for him amounted to voting for Congress. He termed this unacceptable, especially when the Congress-GFP alliance has fielded GFP’s Prashant Naik in Poinguinim. Bhagat added that both parties are expected to campaign for alliance candidates, noting that GFP is actively canvassing for Congress candidate Sumitra Pagi in Khola.

He pointed out that GFP President Vijay Sardesai had taken strict action against party workers acting against the alliance and demanded similar action by the Congress against those involved in anti-party activities. Borges said he had reported the matter to party leaders and appealed to voters to support Prashant Naik. Bhandari urged the Congress leadership to act before it was too late.
