The Goa Forward Party has made a request to the South Goa District Collector Ajit Roy to do a rethink on conducting awareness program on Covid-19 pandemic in the villages, saying the entire exercise may end up in only increasing the number of cases in the state.
Addressing the media, Goa Forward General Secretary Prashant Naik said the order issued by the office of the mamlatdar, Quepem, drawing up a Covid awareness programme schedule in the villages of Quepem taluka with the help of master trainers will further aggravate the prevailing situation.
“If you go by the order, the proposed awareness meetings are to be held at the village panchayat halls for people from four or five wards at one time. This means that at any given time, around 2000 people from these wards may attend the programme, a situation that may not augur well for norms such as social distancing,” he said.
Prashant made a plea to the South Goa Collector that such awareness programme should have been conducted when the situation was under control.
“Cases have been increasing in hundreds every day. Such programmes are being planned when the state borders are being opened for visitors,” he said.Saying that such programmes are not going to help to bring down the cases, he said on the contrary these will increas the number of cases.
