Some cheer: Vasco maintains clean slate in dengue battle

VASCO

At a time when health authorities have been battling to contain the spread of Covid in the port town, there is some cheer among authorities as far as another disease is concerned.

There have been no dengue cases in Vasco city since the last three months, stated an official from the Vasco Urban Health Centre (UHC).

"We had around 20 dengue cases in January and cases were detected over the next five months till May. We had around 45 cases of dengue during this period and all of them have recovered after treatment,” said the official.

The official said dengue cases had been detected in areas like Baina, Sada, Mangor Hill, Shantinagar, New Vaddem, Chicalim and Vaddem.

“Last year, there were a huge number of cases of suspected dengue in entire Mormugao taluka and there was alarm among the people. We had around 4 people (3 males and 1 female) who had succumbed to the disease while undergoing treatment and the fear continued in the minds of the people.”

“But in the last three months of June, July and August, there has not been even a single case of dengue in our jurisdiction," the official added.
