MARGAO
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai has said that the “We For Fatorda” NGO will support Unnati for people and planet in setting up a specialty Goan restaurant after the Covid-19 pandemic subsides to provide quality ethnic cuisine to the public at affordable rates.

He was speaking after inaugurating Unnati’s Home Work production unit at Fatorda on Wednesday in the presence of Usha Sardesai, Founder of “UNNATI for People and Planet, Goa Women Forward President Adv Ashma , former chairpersons of Margao Municipal Council Pooja Naik Kanekar and Babita Angle Prabhudesai and members of women self-help groups from Fatorda.

“One of the core projects of “We for Fatorda” is “UNNATI for people and planet” with a brand name “HOMEWORK” “ a confederation of women self-help groups in Fatorda. Through the years we have seen women grow and shine as successful local entrepreneurs, As ‘We for Fatorda’, we couldn’t be more proud of their accomplishments and wish them and other women the best, as they continue to be role models for our group and benefactors,” he added.

He further said “at the same time, our charitable foundation continues to lend support to numerous women who produce local masalas and agriculture produce seeking to earn extra income, or at times be the sole breadwinners of the family. At ‘We for Fatorda’, we see their success as our desired turnover.”

Unnati for People and Planet has been striving to empower the women and marginalized community of Fatorda to be independent and support them financially.

Saying that We for Fatorda has been supporting farmers and subsidizing farming operations by providing seeds, fertilizers etc, Sardesai said the NGO will now provide post harvesting support and will also provide all the required support to make finished products through “HOME WORK” brand.

Founder of Unnati for People and Planet, Usha Vijai Sardesai, said, “Today we have inaugurated the production unit and the finished products would be sold across “HOME WORK” stores across Goa. One such store was inaugurated 9 months back at Fatorda. HOME WORK production unit would be producing 20 different varieties of masalas, 30 varieties of dehydrated vegetables, snacks, and pickles”.
