GFP questions Canacona MLA, Tawadkar on Bhumiputra Bill

CANACONA

Questioning the logic of merely seeking the removal of the word “Bhumiputra” from the Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill, the Goa Forward Party (GFP) on Friday sought to know if Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes and ex-minister Ramesh Tawadkar were aware of contents in the bill and said there would be serious ramifications if the bill became law.

Questioning Fernandes for the memorandum presented to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant through him, Goa Forward Party General Secretary Prashant Naik said: “When the bill itself is very dangerous for Goans at large, what difference does it make only if one word 'Bhumiputra' is taken off? Have they read the bill?”

“We want nothing less than a complete withdrawal of the bill itself. If it becomes a law in its present form, it would have a devastating effect on Goans.”

“There are already enough legislations to give rightful ownerships of Goans holding Kumeri lands, Mokaso, Aframent for ages and generations together. There are enough laws and guidelines in Comunidades as well as for other properties,” said Naik.

“If the government still goes ahead and makes it a law, the Goa Forward will oppose it tooth and nail, even to the extent of protest on the streets,” he warned.

Others present at the news conference included Tejal Mudkudkar, Umesh Tubki, Dashrath Gaonkar, Govind Velip and Guru Bandekar.
