PANAJI
Porvorim Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte has said the State government must hold a public hearing on the controversial Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarni Bill which was passed in the recent assembly session.
"The government should not be in hurry to go ahead with the bill but should conduct a public hearing along the similar lines of the public hearing on the draft Coastal Zone Management Plan,” said Khaunte during a news conference in Panaji on Friday.
Stating that the bill was passed without discussion in the assembly, Khaunte said the intention of government in passing the bill was dubious.
“The government has passed the bill to fool people while keeping eye on the upcoming assembly elections and to safeguard the interests of those who have grabbed land,” Khaunte said.
He said the high court had struck down the Maharashtra government to bring in a law to regularise illegal structures.
Khaunte also stated that the Goa Mineral Development Corporation Bill would cause further problems for the mining dependent people.
