The Goa Forward Party (GFP) has slammed the government over a series of failures in accomplishing assurances; financial mismanagement leading to debt and a deteriorating law and order system making Goa a ‘soft state’ vulnerable to criminal activities.
“Crimes are taking place in Goa…A mother (allegedly) kills her child and packs his body in a suitcase, and another woman abandons two minor siblings…There is passport racket... Some (Bangladeshis) get their illegal passports from Goa and Pune police arrest them, not Goa Police. Not too long ago, the Hyderabad police arrested (alleged) drug peddlers from Goa,” GFP President Vijai Sardesai said while addressing a press conference at the party head office in Panaji on Wednesday.
The Fatorda legislator also alleged illegal marriage registrations, fake job offers abroad, etc adding, “I have also been told that around 720 cars were illegally transferred. What is Goa police doing? Or has Goa become a ‘soft state’ with the attitude of "khao, piyo, maja karo,” he questioned.
Sardesai further alleged irregularities in the various sectors including Tourism Department's soft corner for some group and distancing local women groups from taking up the beach cleaning project, the alleged Zuari land scam among others.
“If the government stops events without completing these projects, the mess will continue,” he said citing the display of event hoardings in Panaji amid Smart City work chaos.
