'Methodical' green cover planned for smart city, says IPSCDL

PANAJI

Panaji's 'smart city' mission has its plans for a greater and methodical green cover for the capital city, said a statement issued by the special purpose vehicle to implement the project -- Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited.

"Panaji will see a greater and methodically planned green cover taking shape in a phased manner," IPSCDL said after facing severe criticism over felling of two aged-old trees in the city.

The trees had to be felled since they were in the main carriage-way and were obstructing the sewerage and other works currently being executed, it said.

A new re-greening plan is in place, it said, adding that the stretch from Madhuban complex to the St Inez Cemetery junction, around 30 spots have been identified to plant canopy trees, IPSCDL said.

It also said that once the two roads which have been completed -- Menezes Braganza road and Dr P Shirgaonkar Road in Central Panaji -- canopy trees which were planted have taken root. These two roads were bereft of green cover, it added.
