MARGAO
Throwing up a challenge to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to stop the “Yogi model” of governance from entering Goa, Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai on Friday warned there will be no beef on the Goan platter this ensuing Christmas with Karnataka, ruled by the BJP, banning all slaughter of livestock.
In fact, Sardesai posed a pointed question to Power Minister Nilesh Cabral, seeking to know whether the government has drawn up any plans to ensure continuous supplies of beef to the people of Goa with Karnataka enacting the legislation earlier this week.
Addressing the media, Sardesai said "If the supply is stopped from Karnataka, then there won't be any beef on the Goan platter this Christmas. There will be no beef for those who have it as their staple diet. An attempt is being made to create a divide between communities”.
He added: “I do not want to pose the question on the availability of beef to Goa to the Chief Minister because of the trust deficit. And, I know that BJP ministers Filipe Neri Rodrigues and Jennifer Monserrate and MLAs Wilfred, Tony and Clafacio have no voice in the government. That’s the reason, I ask Power Minister Nilesh Cabral to answer whether beef will disappear from the Goan platter this Christmas or not”.
