Modifying its earlier order on the functioning of the Dabolim Airport Police Station, the Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) on Thursday recommended that airport authorities hand over an additional 121.6 sq mtrs of space, adjoining the previously identified 190 square metres area, for the efficient functioning of the police station and the traffic cell.
The latest direction came while disposing of a review application moved by the Director General of Police in the Commission’s November 2025 order arising from its suo motu cognisance of a media report that highlighted police personnel operating out of makeshift cabin structures at Dabolim Airport for nearly eight years.
“The Respondent shall also hand over to the Applicant the additional area of 121.6 sq mtrs, which is in front of the area of 190 sq mtrs, for the efficient functioning of the Dabolim Airport Police Station and the Traffic Cell,” the Commission said in its fresh order.
With this, the total space to be made available now rises to 311.6 sq mtrs.
The Commission passed the direction after hearing from the police department and the airport authorities and after conducting a site inspection at Dabolim Airport on March 13.
Earlier, the Commission had directed the handover of 190 sq mtrs in the basement of the airport’s multi-level car parking complex for shifting the police station.
In the modified order, however, the Commission went a step further by directing that the additional 121.6 sq mtrs area in front of the originally identified premises be handed over.
The order further recommended the DGP to provide the necessary infrastructure facilities in the premises once handed over and called upon the Airport Director to submit an action taken report by June 23.
