Stating that the declaration of the GPCC president had ended all speculation and had brought in clarity, newly appointed GPCC Working President Aleixo Sequeira on Tuesday said the entire team would work with GPCC President Girish Chodankar to achieve its goal of forming a government in 2022.

“I am happy now. Not because I have been appointed as working president but because the State party president’s issue has been settled once and for all. We know that Girish will continue as PCC president and we will continue to work with him to achieve our goal,” Sequeira in an interview with Prudent Media.

He said senior party leaders like Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro, Poriem MLA Pratapsing Rane, South Goa MP Francis Sardinha, Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, Ponda MLA Ravi Naik and Opposition Leader Digambar Kamat would work as a team.

He also said a blend of fresh leaders and experienced leaders would help form a government. “The party has learnt from its mistake and will not give tickets to those who have defected from the party. We will ensure to identify those candidates who will not get tempted to promises by other parties,” said Sequeira.

Admitting that there had been a public perception that Congress MLAs once elected tend to shift parties, Sequeira said: “This time, the party will gain the faith of people as soon as party candidates are declared.”

Sequeira said performance should be the criteria for selecting the working functionaries of the party.

Refusing to comment on any alliance with other parties, Sequeira said an alliance, if any, would be decided by the party high command.
