The North Goa District and Sessions Court, on Tuesday, disposed an anticipatory bail application of Goa Medical College forensic head Dr. Edmundo Rodrigues after police in a statement assured that if an arrest is required they will send a notice 48 hours earlier.
Dr. Rodrigues was thrown into controversy after his department mistakenly disposed off the body of a 24-year-old resident of Aldona, instead of the body of a 45-year-old unidentified male.
Dr. Rodrigues has applied for anticipatory bail after he was called in for questioning by the Crime Branch which is investigating the case.
Meanwhile, the crime branch has recorded the statement of Dr. Rodrigues and 10 other people in this case.
It may be recalled that on September 29, the body of 24-year-old Januz Gonsalves, a resident of Aldona was handed over to the CCP for disposal by GMC’s Forensic Department instead of the unclaimed body of a 45-year-old man.
With the mistake drawing a lot of flak from the media and the public, Health minister Vishwajit Rane announced the suspension of three officials involved in the goof up.
Professor and head of Forensic Department Dr. Edmundo J Rodrigues, Junior Technician Machindra Zalmi, post-mortem attendant Prakash Narvekar were suspended in the case.
