The Opposition Congress on Tuesday alleged that the minutes of the IDC meetings were manipulated to favour Special Economic Zone (SEZ) promoters.
Addressing mediapersons at the Congress headquarters, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar reiterated that the SEZ case was a multiple crore scam, as the government was using the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) to deal with SEZ.
While slamming the government over the SEZ settlement, Chodankar demanded that the government should immediately withdraw the approval.
It may be recalled that the Cabinet in July this year approved the GIDC proposal to repossess 38 lakh sq mts of land by paying the SEZ promoters a sum of Rs 256 crore while also agreeing to withdraw all the FIRs registered against them.
The Congress also threatened to move Supreme Court if the government attempts to borrow a loan to pay off the SEZ promoters.
Chodankar, who was flanked by Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, and Congress spokespersons Amarnath Panjikar and Sankalp Amonkar, alleged that the government was manipulating the SEZ case, and that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was pressurizing other board members of the IDC.
Chodankar also pointed out that the board meetings of the IDC were a sham.
“Even though SEZ was not on the main agenda of the 355th and 356th board meetings of the IDC, in the 357th board meeting held on 27 June 2018, the minutes of the 355th and 356th board meetings were discussed, and it was shown that SEZ was a part of ‘any other business’ (AOB). “How can a matter that is so big that it was with the Supreme Court, have not been on the agenda of the meeting?” demanded Chodankar.
Moreover, Chodankar showed documents that showed that three key officials i.e. Secretary of Industries Sudhir Mahajan, Secretary of Finance Daulat Hawaldar, and the Director of Industries Trade and Commerce VP Dangui, were all absent at the 357th board meeting of the IDC.
The Congress chief has said that if the resolution is not withdrawn, all the directors on the board of the IDC will be held liable in the ‘SEZ scam’.
Chodankar also alleged that the Surrender Policy Guidelines 2018 were specially repealed to favour SEZ promoters.
