OLD GOA
Aggrieved kiosk owners met St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes yet again over the issue of their rehabilitation after their kiosks were recently demolished outside the GMC and he has assured to give a definite reply before August 15.
“I held a meeting with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant as well as the health minister who have agreed to my proposal,” Fernandes told the kiosk owners.
“I have prepared a plan to rehabilitate around 30 kiosk owners within the space available at the area where currently the fruit vendors are relocated,” Fernandes said.
But when coerced by the kiosk owners over a definite assurance, Fernandes said, “I will give a definite reply before August 15 on when the work on the construction of shops will be taken up. Anyhow, we will get it done on humanitarian grounds.”
Meanwhile, running thin on patience, the affected kiosk owners have threatened to up the ante if concrete steps are not taken on their rehabilitation.
A kiosk owner Domnic Pereira said they have been following up with the issue of rehabilitation for over a month.
“All that we are hearing are assurances but now, we need a definite assurance when we will be rehabilitated. We have kept quiet all along, but in the future, we will be forced to get aggressive,” said Pereira.
