A state-of-the-art Skull and Hand Surgery Centre will soon be set up at the State’s premier healthcare institution “ Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
Making the announcement, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said the initiative aims to provide specialised care for complex cranial and hand surgeries and will address a critical healthcare need.
The new centre, according to Rane, will be equipped with cutting-edge technology and will be led by a team of highly skilled surgeons and healthcare professionals. “This advanced facility is intended to ensure accurate diagnosis, timely interventions, and world-class treatment for patients requiring specialised care in skull and hand surgeries,” Rane wrote in a post on X.
He said once the centre is up and operational, it will significantly reduce the need for patients to travel outside Goa for specialised medical care.
Some commonly needed ‘hand surgeries’ include skin grafts, skin flaps, nerve repairs, tendon repairs, and joint replacement in cases of severe arthritis. Replantation is another type of hand surgery where body parts such as a finger, hand, or toe, which are completely severed from the body, are reattached.
