Three cops were injured in a knife attack during the Bodgeshwar Zatra on Wednesday evening. The incident took place when Ayush Manoj Naik of Naikawado-Calangute began disrupting a cultural programme involving both adults and children.
The situation escalated when Naik brandished a knife and charged towards the children participating in the event. Quick-thinking police staff deployed near the cultural programme stage attempted to subdue Naik and prevent any harm to the children.
However, in the ensuing scuffle, Naik swung the knife at the officers, injuring three police personnel who had intervened to restrain him.
The injured officers were identified as Police Constables Sharad Halgi from Calangute Police Station, Ritesh Mahale from Anjuna Police Station, and Vithal Naroji from Panaji Police Station.
Following first aid at the North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa, PCs Halgi and Naroji were referred to GMC for further treatment. Naik was apprehended by the police, and an FIR is currently being processed. Initial police reports suggest that the suspect appeared to be mentally disturbed at the time of the incident.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the motive behind the attack.
