Go to grass-roots, P T Usha tells Goa

India’s track and field Queen P T Usha on Saturday urged the sports administrators to go to the grass-roots to take athletics to great heights in the country, even as she made a fervent plea to the budding athletes to bring laurels for the country with a host of training facilities around.  

She also said that corporate funding will go a long way in churning many an athlete who will bring name and fame for the country. 

Inaugurating the country’s first-ever International Festival of Films on Running and Cycling, “ReelsOnHeels 2018” organized by Ravindra Bhavan, Margao and Carmona-based Saxtti Film at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao in the presence of TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai, P T Usha, however, said the recent trends in the track and athletic fields goes to show that the performance of the athletes is improving. 

“There’s has been a lot of improvement now compared to our days in the 80’s. I had seen the synthetic turf only when I had gone to Moscow to participate in an event. Today, we can find synthetic turfs in every state and district. Now, the trend is to invite foreign coaches to train our athletes. Our athletes are sent to Europe and the countries for training. During our days, we were imparted training only
