Is the BJP leadership seriously toying with the idea of making Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar shed most of the portfolios presently held by him as a solution to the crisis looming on the administration?
While the question of replacing the Chief Minister or appointing PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar as a stop gap arrangement is totally ruled out for the moment, sources close to the ruling coalition pointed out that an alternate solution, wherein the Chief Minister sheds most of the portfolios held by him is being given a serious thought to overcome the present situation.
Sources in the know said that key coalition partner, Goa Forward Party, which has been opposed to any temporary arrangement with or without Sudin Dhavlikar leading the coalition, has stuck to its earlier decision opposing any stop gap arrangement.
In fact, Goa Forward party Chief and TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai have stuck to their stand, opposing any move suggesting a temporary arrangement, but is believed to have taken a stand that the present situation can be overcome if the Chief Minster sheds most of the portfolios.
Sardessai is believed to have discussed the situation with the Chief Minister over the phone, but had declined to divulge what transpired between him and the Chief Minister, only saying that a solution may soon be on the cards to overcome the prevailing scenario.
However, what has raised many an eyebrow in political circles is the TCP Minister’s silence on the administrative crisis plaguing the government as has been aired by many, including Fisheries Minister, Vinod Palienkar, belonging to the Goa Forward.
In this context, the reported telephonic conversation between the TCP Minister and the Chief Minister assumes significance, only speculations rife in political circles that the shedding portfolios by the Chief Ministers is one solution that is being given a serious thought by the powers that be.
In fact, sources in the know pointed out that the Chief Minister may soon take a decision on the question of giving up certain portfolios after consulting the top Delhi-based party leadership.
