The closure of the Anmod ghat for vehicular traffic due to repair works has increased the load on the Chorla ghat route to Belgaum, thus causing congestion on the busy highway.
What has made matters worse is Chorla ghat section too is being repaired while at the same time it is facing heavy traffic as a result of closure of the Anmod ghat route for around a month.
The PWD has come under the scanner for not taking this aspect of traffic flow into consideration and planning accordingly in advance.
On Wednesday, several stretches of the ghat in both Karnataka and Goa congestion witnessed traffic congestion. A truck driver plying on the Chorla ghat route, Ashraf Inamdar, said for the last four days he has been witnessing heavy traffic. “The stretches at some places are narrow and it is dangerous to manoeuvre the vehicle,” he said.
People complained that in spite of the traffic congestion, no police are seen around to take care of the situation.
Local panch member from Keri-Sattari Laxman Gaonkar said that due to the traffic congestion, business at the main bazaar in Keri has been affected in the last four days.
