Amidst uproar over bauxite handling and dust pollution, a port user on Wednesday released a video on social media of a crane loading bauxite cargo at berth no 10.
The video shows there is no dust pollution. It shows that cargo being offloaded from the ship with the name of the ship for more clarity on the issue. The port user also sent a message saying that this ends speculation that bauxite cargo creates dust pollution.
When contacted, the port user on condition of anonymity said that the cargo had higher percentage of moisture. He also said that the berths and roads were sprinkled with water by MPT continuously. It may be recalled that there was a huge hue and cry after two ships carrying bauxite had arrived at MPT in a span of one month.
People had complained that the cargo was dusty and that the dust had spread far and settled on food packets of labourers on fishing boats at Kharewado jetty.
