Members of the Hindu and Muslim communities participated at a meeting convened by the Rumdamol village panchayat on
Wednesday morning after tension rent the air in the communally sensitive housing board area late Tuesday night ahead of the Julus scheduled for the next day.
Tension had rent the air in the Rumdamol housing board after an accident involving a goods carrier, with members of one community accusing some persons for shouting anti-India and pro-Pakistan slogans.
At the meeting chaired by Sarpanch Vishwadas Naik and attended by panch members, Vinayak Naik, former Sarpanch Sofia and others, members of the two communities discussed the sensitive issue of slogans shouted by some persons in the Housing board last night.
While one group insisted that all those involved in shouting slogans should be put behind bars,
members of the Muslim community also supported the demand, saying that no one has the right to shout anti-India slogans.
They, however, made a fervent plea to the other group not to paint the entire community in bad light, saying there are black sheep in all the communities.
Panch Vinayak Naik maintained that the local body had granted permission for the Julus and illumination as the body does not discriminate against any community on caste or religious lines.
He, however, said that no one has the right to shout anti-India slogans, warning that such behaviour will not be tolerated in the housing board.
Maina-Curtorim PI Pravin Kumar Vast said on Wednesday evening that the police have received no complaint from any individual or group against anyone for raising anti-India slogans.
He said the police have only registered a case under the Motor Vehicles Act following last night’s incident.
District police chief SP Arvind Gawas took a round of the Rumdamol Housing Board on Wednesday evening after the procession as a precautionary measure.
