Mormugao mining dependents hit out at the BJP Govt and warned of not supporting the party in the future if mining activities do not resume in the state soon. South Goa MP Narendra Savaikar was in the line of firing by the dependents of mining who claimed that BJP was only giving fake assurances and fooling the people on resumption of mining activities in the State. They said there was no hope that BJP could get mining activities on tracks soon.
Sawaikar was in Vasco to address a meeting of launch and barge owners in the port town along with Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, Goa Mining People’s Front President Putu Gaonkar and others.
The meeting remained inconclusive as no assurance of resumption of mining was given. Sawaikar said the meeting was not called to set any deadlines or give assurances.
Stakeholders in the mining sector have, however, lost all hope and have have warned that they would work against the BJP in the forthcoming election, if mining doesn’t resume soon.
Savaikar said that the Govt was making all attempts to restart mining activities in Goa and appealed to the people to repose faith and trust in the Govt. Savaikar also said that people must not panic on unsubstantiated media reports on rejection of ordinance by Union Govt and said nothing of that sort had been received by state govt.
“We all want that mining activities must resume and Goa is also losing on revenue. All efforts by state Govt, central Govt and MP are underway to resume mining. I understand the sentiments of mining dependents and since this a legal issue there should be some patience and we are working on steps to find a breakthrough from the legal course required to start mining. I won’t believe any media reports of rejection by Central Govt as I am not aware if the state Govt has received anything on that front and we must not get carried away by such reports .” Said Savaikar
The President of Goa Mining people Front ( GMPF ) Putu Gaonkar said that a deadline till 15 December was given by BJP Govt to start mining failing which the GMPF would begin an agitation
“ I am not a BJP Person and I am representing Mining dependents and we are only demanding that mining begins in the state. We had offered the Govt a solution and we have only asked MP about the status of mining resumption and he has said that there is no decision taken as of now. Savaikar says that the union Govt had not officially rejected the proposals made by state Govt on mining resumption. He has said not to rely on press reports,” said Gaonkar
