A one-day sit-in hunger strike was held at Azad Maidan on Thursday in solidarity with climate activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk, who is on an indefinite fast in Delhi demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The protest in the capital city drew participation from political leaders and activists.
AAP State president Valmiki Naik and Congress leader Olencio Simoes joined several others in the strike, voicing support for Wangchuk’s call for accountability in education policy.
Organisers said the sit-in was meant to amplify Wangchuk’s demands and highlight concerns over governance in the education sector following the student suicides after the question paper leak forced cancellation of the national medical entrance test NEET.
The Azad Maidan protest added Goa’s voice to a growing chorus of solidarity actions across the country, underscoring the national resonance of Wangchuk’s campaign at Jantar Mantar in the national capital.
