A week after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced the cancellation of Std XII exams, the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBS&HSE) has sought suggestions from the public for the evaluation criteria.
On June 2, the Chief Minister had declared that the students will be assessed as per ‘well-defined criteria’, but gave no indication on the parameters to be used.
The Goa Board has now asked stakeholders and the general public to provide suggestions for the preparation of objective criteria for the tabulation of the class 12 marks.
The suggestions are to be sent on [email protected] latest by June 11.
Goa Board has said that the results of class 12 students will be compiled as per well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner.
The government is in a dilemma given the complexities of arriving at a fair and uniform assessment, given the background that several students had skipped internal exams, including practicals because of the grim Covid situation.
The decision to cancel exams may have ended the agony of students, parents and teachers, but it opened a new challenge for the board to declare results.
While internal assessment of SSC could be a cake-walk, finalising the criteria for announcing the HSSC results would be a nightmare given the intricacies involved, especially in view of the fact that the 12th Std is seen as a gateway for the careers of students.
The board, however, have left a window open for students seeking to better their assessment scores as per the criteria to be finalised, giving them an option to appear for exams. The modalities of such exams are yet to be worked upon.
GU announces dates for college exams
PANAJI: Meanwhile, the Goa University on Wednesday issued a circular revising its academic year schedule for 2020-2021 and announcing the examination dates. As per the new schedule exams of colleges under the Goa University will commence from July 9 and end on Aug 14.
