Goa budget 2025-26: Power sector set for overhaul with Rs 1000 cr transmission project, solar initiatives

In a major boost to the State’s power scenario, Goa Tamnar Transmission Project Limited (GTTPL) is all set to commission its '400kv & 220kv' power line between Xeldem and Mapusa this year, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced in the State Budget.

Sawant said that the project is worth Rs 1000 crore which will strengthen the State’s power scenario, especially along the coastal belt.

With a whopping Rs 4131 crore budget allocation, the government proposes to undertake various works to strengthen power infrastructure like ERP implementation, replacement of old Distribution Transformer Centres, reconductoring of overhead conductors, LT Underground Cabling works etc.

Sawant also announced plans to implement the Smart Digital meter project, replacing the old meters, from this year onwards. He said that the projects worth Rs 1060 crores would be completed in the coming financial year 2025-26.

The government has allocated Rs 62.15cr towards new and renewable energy. The state proposes to take up Rs 60 cr worth of Model Solar Village pilot project under the District Mineral Foundation.

It also proposes the commissioning of 700 solar water pumps and establishing a ground-mounted and roof-mounted 5MW solar power plant at Goa Engineering College, Farmagudi.
