Goa Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju has summoned a 14-day-long Budget Session of the Goa Legislative Assembly, starting from March 6. The session will conclude on March 27.
With Assembly elections due early next year, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will table the State Budget for 2026-27 during the session, which is likely to be the final budget of the current BJP-led government. The Chief Minister will also present the Action Taken Report on the Budget for 2025-26 in the House.
The session is expected to be stormy, with the opposition gearing up to launch a strong offensive against the government on several contentious issues, including environmental degradation, law and order concerns and alleged financial mismanagement.
The five-year term of the Sawant-led government is scheduled to end in March 2027. Sawant was sworn in as Chief Minister on March 28, 2022, following the BJP’s victory in the February 14, 2022 Assembly elections, with support from the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and Independent legislators.
