In a major boost to technology-driven education in Goa, the Project Management Unit (PMU) under the Coding and Robotics Education in Schools (CARES) Scheme of the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has been recognised by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) as a ‘Registered Space Tutor’. The recognition, granted by ISRO’s Capacity Building Programme Office (CBPO), is valid until June 2029 and allows the PMU to promote structured space education and awareness programmes among students and the wider community.
According to a press note, the recognition places Goa among a select group of institutions authorised to conduct ISRO-supported space education programmes. It also strengthens the CARES Scheme’s goal of exposing students to emerging technologies such as coding, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), drones, 3D printing and space technology.
Launched in 2021, the CARES Scheme has become a leading technology education initiative in the state, reaching more than 65,000 students each year across over 440 government and government-aided schools. The programme has also trained more than 660 teachers and Teach for Goa fellows through hands-on, project-based learning methods in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2023.
Following the ISRO recognition, the PMU plans to organise workshops, expert talks, innovation challenges, astronomy sessions, student projects and demonstrations on satellite technology, remote sensing, Earth observation and rocketry.
