Goa CM linked to BJP success in two seats

BELAGAVI

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who was made in charge of 18 constituencies in Belagavi district, has been credited for the success of BJP candidates in Khanapur and Belagavi South.

Sawant had personally campaigned for Belagavi South BJP candidate Abhay Patil and had also taken part in the road show along with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Sawant had also personally campaigned for Khanapur BJP candidate Vitthal Halgekar while his wife, Sulakshana Sawant, was also camping in Khanapur.

During their campaigns in Belagavi and Khanapur, the Mhadei issue was deliberately kept in abeyance by leaders of national parties, including the BJP leaders.

However, with BJP candidate Vitthal Halgekar winning the elections hands down, it remains to see what stand the new BJP MLA takes in the issue.
