MARGAO
The stage is finally set for the launching of the work on the six-lane Rawanfond bridge at a cost of Rs 52 crore early next week.
The government will also launch the beautification of the Rawanfond and the Aquem Power house circles, besides the entire stretch of the Rawanfond-Khareband bridge and Rawanfond-Victor Hospital road at a cost of Rs 11 crore.
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat has inspected the Rawanfond traffic junction along with officials of the Goa State Infrastructure Development Agency (GSIDC) before Chief Minister Pramod Sawant lays the foundation stone for the prestigious bridge project on May 16.
Officials of the GSIDC and PWD also inspected the internal road touching the Margao flyover since the Margao MLA has also insisted on beautification of this stretch of road along with the Rawanfond-Khareband bridge road.
Saturday saw the Margao MLA going in a huddle with BJP-backed ruling councillors to chalk out the programme for the foundation stone laying ceremony for the bridge on May 16. Sources said the Margao MLA has asked the city fathers to mobilise people for the grand foundation stone laying programme on Tuesday.
GSIDC officials told The Goan that the agency has already tendered the project and the work order issued to the contractor to execute the six-lane bridge project at a cost of Rs 52 crore.
As far as the beautification of the Rawanfond and Aquem Power House junction, besides the Rawanfond-Khareband bridge road and Rawanfond-Victor Hospital road is concerned, the GSIDC will execute the work at a cost of Rs 11 crore.
The work will include widening of the road, wherever possible, besides construction of footpath all along the stretch.
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat had told the media last week that the beautification of the entry and exit roads to the Margao railway station will be taken up for beautification to ensure that visitors visiting the State via the Margao railway station gets a positive image of Margao city.
In fact, the area on the Aquem side of the Margao railway station has been craving for attention from the authorities over the years. Haphazard parking of vehicles, no proper stand for the taxis, rickshaws and motorcycle pilots and mushrooming illegal kiosks have literally been the order of the day on the Aquem side of the Margao railway station.
