Goa crosses 59K scans in AI-backed lung cancer drive

PANAJI:

Goa’s early lung cancer detection program has reached a major milestone, with over 59,000 scans conducted across the state.

The initiative, supported by AI-driven technology from AstraZeneca, has screened 59,192 individuals across 19 sites, identifying 5,719 nodules and 402 high-risk lung nodule malignancies (LNMs).

The information was provided by Health Minister Vishwajit Rane.

Rane noted that this proactive, technology-backed approach is significantly improving early diagnosis and survival outcomes. “By prioritising prevention and innovation, the state aims to build a healthier, more resilient population,” he said.

Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding access to advanced diagnostics and ensuring timely interventions for at-risk individuals.

“This initiative shows what is possible when innovation meets public health needs. Early detection is key to saving lives, and we are proud to lead the way in Goa,” Rane said.

The use of AI in analysing scans enhances the accuracy and speed of diagnoses, allowing healthcare providers to intervene earlier and more efficiently.
