The Goa Customs has successfully cleared IGST refunds to the tune of Rs 12.63 crore pertaining to over 277 shipping bills during a fortnight-long sensitisation drive on process pending IGST refunds from May 31 to June 16.

A nodal officer was posted in the Goa Customs House to deal with the issue and a “Special Refund Cell” with dedicated manpower was set up.

Commissioner of Customs (Goa) R Manohar said the department is committed to address and clear all pending IGST Refund claims by end of June. “This was a pro-active step carried out by the department as a trade facilitation measure. Goa Customs has successfully scrolled out IGST refunds to the tune of Rs 12.63 crore related to over 277 shipping bills during the drive. This move was a part of a first of its kind exercise organised by the department to further enhance ease of doing good business,” said Manohar.

“Officers were trained to deal exclusively with pending IGST refunds. For the difficulty that exporters claim they face in uploading returns, we advised exporters to appoint senior persons and ensure that their filing is error-free. This will help them expedite their claims. We have so far disbursed around Rs 110.14 crore in Goa and have another Rs 32.96 crore to be settled,” said Manohar.

He said exporters faced problems in getting their refund claim as they have filed wrong particulars either in shipping bills or the corresponding GST retums.

“To resolve the issue, officers at Special IGST Refund Cell contacted the exporters through e-mail, SMS and phone. They have been guided about the errors committed by them in the SBs and GST returns and advised them to rectify the same to get their claims settled,” said Manohar.
